Udawalawe National Park, spanning approximately 308 square kilometers, is a wildlife haven situated in southern Sri Lanka. Established to provide a sanctuary for displaced animals during the construction of the Udawalawe Reservoir, it has become one of the best places in Asia to see wild elephants in their natural habitat. In addition to elephants, the park is home to water buffalo, sambar deer, leopards, and a wide variety of bird species. The Udawalawe Elephant Transit Home, located nearby, cares for orphaned elephant calves before releasing them back into the wild. Guided jeep safaris offer an excellent opportunity to observe these majestic animals up close.
